Carn Ingli Killer write up and results

The weather couldn’t have been better for the 44 runners who took part in Thursday nights Carn Ingli killer race. It’s also nice to have the good weather for organising it, and especially for the marshals! 😉

Huge thanks to the marshals, who the race couldn’t happen without them. 😉

The race started in 2016 if my mempory serves me correctly, and we’ve had a steady increase in numbers over the years. We’ve had as low as 13! 😋

Ok, for the race itself. It’s a 5km off-road race in the glorious National park. So a ‘Park run’! 😋 The first mile is all up hill! About 1,000ft in fact! There’s a mixture of terrain from road, track, trod, rocky stuff, and even more rocky stuff until it’s nearly scrambling! From the top there’s a little bit of rocky descent, until a small steady climb back up to the cairn at Carn Briw. Now the views expand a bit more over Newport bay. The route steadily descends for a while, before turning right down a rough rocky chute! Yee-ha! 😋  There’s lots of twists and turns, before descending onto the last bit of road, and one final slight incline to the finish.

From pretty much the start, and first to cross the line, was M40 Pembs harriers runner, Roscoe Powell, in 30m 05s! Oof! 😉 Local lad, and a great regular supporter of the race was Jonny Sable, who was 2nd overall/1st OM, in 31m 45s. Jonny has always finished in the top 5, but I think he’s narrowly missed out on winning overall. One day I’m sure.

The M50 cat was very strongly contested, with 4 of them(7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th!) being only 28 seconds of each other! Maenclochog lad James Greenhalgh was leading off the last top, picking out all the good lines on the rough stuff. However, he was passed by two others on the final road descent, with Wiltshire based David Mackie taking the M50 win. 😋 His wife Susan ended up helping on top of Carn Ingli, and cleared the flags back down! 😉

Recovery lad, Lenny the Lion Hughes, took the M60 win in 39m exactly and 13th overall. 😉

Just behind him was first Open Female, Bethan Williams, in 39m 19s, whilst Fishguard lass Emma Dark was 1st F50, and 17th overall. The amazing Hazel Davis was first F70 in 24th overal, 1st F40 was Kimberly Evans, who was 30th overall in 46m 02s, whilst Lon Morgan took the F60 win in 49m 17s. 😉

Post race tea and cake was served from our converted camper, with nearly all the cake being devoured.

Huge thanks again for coming, and spreading the good word about the race. It’s much appreciated. 😉

Next race is the 7mile Cerrig Glas race, which is on Sunday 4th Aug. It also has junior races being approx 1mile for over 11s, and 0.5m for the under 11s.

Then on Sat 17th Aug, is the 5mile historic Ras Beca race.
